Local roofing in Houston Northwest
Northwest Houston runs along State Highway 249 and State Highway 6 through the Cypress-Fairbanks corridor, and it is one of the older suburban belts in the metro. Copperfield alone was launched in 1977 and built out mostly through the 1980s and 90s, which means thousands of roofs here are two and three decades old. The May 2024 derecho drove near-100 mph gusts across this part of Houston, and Harvey and the 2016 Tax Day storm hit before it. We are on roofs in Northwest Houston every week, hunting the granule loss, bruised shingles, and lifted ridges that quietly let water in on tired roofs.

An older housing stock in a hail-prone corridor
Northwest Houston is not new construction. Much of the housing across 77070, 77069, and 77095 went up from the late 1970s through the 1990s. Copperfield, one of the anchor communities, was launched in 1977 by Friendswood Development and built out across seven villages along State Highway 6 between US-290 and FM 529. That means a huge share of roofs in this corridor are well past 20 years.
Age matters here because of what the weather does. Decades of Texas heat curl and dry out shingles, and once they are brittle, a single hailstorm can retire a roof in an afternoon. Champions neighborhoods near Champions Golf Club and the older sections of Willowbrook carry a lot of these mature roofs.
When we inspect an older Northwest Houston roof, we are honest about where it stands. Some just need a repair and a few more good years. Others are past the point where patching makes sense, and we will tell you that plainly rather than sell you a fix that will not hold.
What the derecho and Harvey taught this area
The May 2024 derecho was the worst damaging wind event to hit the Houston area in nearly 25 years, driving gusts estimated near 100 mph across the metro. Northwest Houston felt it, and it followed Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and the 2016 Tax Day storm that already stressed roofs in the Cypress-Fairbanks area.
Straight-line wind at those speeds does specific things to a roof. It lifts and creases shingles along ridges and eaves, tears off ridge caps, and pries at flashing until water has a path in. On the older roofs common to this corridor, wind that a newer roof would shrug off is enough to start a leak. After a wind event we check the ridges, hips, and edges first, because that is where this kind of damage concentrates.
Neighborhood notes across Northwest Houston
This is a big service area with real differences from one pocket to the next. Copperfield in 77095 is master-planned with active HOAs across its villages, so replacements there need matched shingle color and profile and clean paperwork. Coles Crossing runs the same way. The Champions area off FM 1960 skews toward larger custom homes with more complex rooflines, more valleys, and more places for flashing to fail.
Willowbrook and the surrounding 77070 sections mix established subdivisions with commercial frontage along the highway. Whatever the address, we confirm which HOA or standards apply before we start, match your existing roof, and handle the submittal so nothing about the approval slows your project down.
